A heat resisting stainless steel with high resistance to oxidation scaling and has high strength at elevated temperatures. This is combined with better creep properties at temperature and 310 stainless is very tough and ductile. 310 stainless has good resistance to oxidation in continuous service up to 1150ºC provided reducing sulphur gases are not present. 310 can also be used for occasional service up to 1040ºC. With it's high chromium (to increase high temperature properties) 310 stainless offers good corrosion resistance.

Scaling: The scaling temperature show for 310 stainless is the temperature at which the oxidation speed in size corresponds to a metal loss off 0.1mm during the first year of oxidation in still air. In an oxidising and reducing sulphurous atmosphere the scaling temperature is lowered.
