31803 Duplex
Data Sheet
31803 is a duplex stainless steel designed to combine improved resistance to stress corrosion cracking, pitting, crevice corrosion and high strength in comparrison with other stainless alloys. 31803 Duplex alloy resists chloride environments and sulphide stress corrosion. Duplex 31803 is also roughly double the strength of standard austenitic stainless steel grades. 31803 Duplex can be used successfully as an alternative to standard stainless steel specifications in applications where higher strength and resistance to stress corrosion cracking is required. 31803 Duplex is also referred to as 2205.
When machining 31803 Duplex turning feeds above 0.25mm are recommended whenever possible and SNMG120408 carbide tools are advised for optimum chip breaking of this duplex stainless steel specification. For drilling of UNS S31803, F51, 1.4462, high pressure lubrication is recommended and coated carbide tools are preferred.
