50CrV4 1.8159  Technical Data  50CrV4 is a tough oil quenching .  When heat treated 50CrV4 offers good wear resistance. 50CrV4 is characterised by the addition of vanadium to the specification which differs 50CrV4 from standard spring steel specifications. TYPICAL ANALYSIS C. Mn. Cr. V. 0.50% 0.75% 1.00% 0.15% Forging: Forge at 1050°C. Do not work this steel when it has fallen below 840°C. Annealing: Slow furnace cool from 840°/860°C. Hardening:Pre heat slowly to 650/700°C and thoroughly soak. Continue heating the 50CrV4 component to the final hardening temperature of 850/870°C and allow the component to be heated through. Quench in oil. Tempering: Temper the 50CrV4 tool  immediately after quenching whilst tools are still hand warm. Re-heat to the tempering temperature, soak for one hour per  25 millimetre of total thickness, 2 hours minimum, then cool in air. For most 50CrV4 applications tempering will be between 400°/600°C.
