50CrV4 1.8159
Technical Data
50CrV4 is a tough oil quenching . When heat treated 50CrV4 offers good wear resistance. 50CrV4 is characterised by the addition of vanadium to the specification which differs 50CrV4 from standard spring steel specifications.

Forging:
Forge at 1050°C. Do not work this steel when it has fallen below 840°C.
Annealing: Slow furnace cool from 840°/860°C.
Hardening:Pre heat slowly to 650/700°C and thoroughly soak. Continue heating the 50CrV4 component to the final hardening temperature of 850/870°C and allow the component to be heated through. Quench in oil.
Tempering:
Temper the 50CrV4 tool immediately after quenching whilst tools are still hand warm. Re-heat to the tempering temperature, soak for one hour per 25 millimetre of total thickness, 2 hours minimum, then cool in air. For most 50CrV4 applications tempering will be between 400°/600°C.
