80CrV2 Spring Steel

80CrV2 spring steel plate stockholders and suppliers, delivering to the whole of the UK. 80CrV2 is a low allow spring steel, as standard supplied in the annealed condition suitable for oil hardening and tempering. It combines the high carbon properties of spring steels with the refined grain structure and wear resistance provided by the addition of chromium and vanadium. Used in a wide range of industries, it is a popular choice for heavy duty blades, industrial saws and tools requiring a balance of edge retention and impact resistance.

80CrV2 steel is held on stock and can be delivered throughout the UK.  All orders are supplied in accordance with our ISO 9001 accreditation.

Applications

80CrV2 is primarily used for applications demanding a balance of toughness, strength and wear resistance. Applications include spring components, circular saw blades and knives. Used for cold work tooling components, punches and shear blades.

Carbon 0.75-0.85% Sulphur 0.03% max
Manganese 0.30-0.60% Phosphorous 0.03% max
Silicon 0.15-0.35% Chromium 0.40-0.60%
Vanadium 0.15-0.35

Preheat the carefully, then raise temperature to 1050°C for forging.  Do not forge below 850°C.  After forging cool slowly, preferably in a furnace.

Heat slowly to 680°C, soak well. Cool slowly in the furnace.

Heat the steel slowly to 840-880°C and allow the component to be heated through. Quench in oil.

Temper immediately after quenching whilst tools are still hand warm. Re-heat to the tempering temperature then soak for one hour per 25 millimetre of total thickness (2 hours minimum) Cool in air.

Heat treatment temperatures, including rate of heating, cooling and soaking times etc. will vary due to factors such as the shape and size of each component. Other considerations during the heat treatment process include the type of furnace, quenching medium and work piece transfer facilities. Please consult your heat treatment provider for full guidance on heat treatment of 80CrV2 steel grade.

80CrV2 is not ideally suited for welding. We recommend you contact your welding consumables supplier who should provide you full details and information on welding.

80CrV2 is commonly supplied in the annealed condition and available with cast and analysis certification, please request when placing any orders.
