Announcing Our New Carbon-Neutral Delivery Service

At West Yorkshire Steel, we’re constantly reviewing ways to improve both efficiency and sustainability across our operations.

Carbon-Neutral Delivery Service - West Yorkshire Steel

After careful consideration, we’re proud to announce the launch of our new carbon-neutral delivery initiative. From 1st April, selected deliveries will be dispatched using our newly developed Avian Logistics Division.

This new approach significantly reduces road miles, lowers emissions, and represents an innovative step forward in environmentally responsible steel distribution across the UK. Our delivery partners operate via a decentralised airborne network, allowing flexible routing and minimal reliance on traditional fuel sources.

Key features include:

  • Fully carbon-neutral airborne dispatch
  • GPS-inspired tracking technology
  • Signature drop-off service (overhead conditions permitting)
  • Homing capabilities if delivery is unsuccessful

Estimated delivery times remain competitive, though they may vary slightly depending on wind direction, predator activity, and general pigeon morale.

Yes — we’ve partnered with a highly trained network of homing pigeons to provide sustainable steel transport nationwide.

Sustainable Logistics

For customers ordering smaller precision components, a single pigeon will usually suffice. Larger billets and substantial round bar orders may require coordinated multi-bird deployment. We are currently conducting lift-capacity trials for anything over 200kg.

While we’re confident this marks a bold step toward sustainable logistics, we appreciate that some customers may still prefer steel delivered by lorry.

So rest assured — our standard delivery service remains fully operational, pigeon-free, and considerably more practical.

Happy April Fools’ Day from all of us at West Yorkshire Steel
