20MnCr5 steel stockholders and suppliers. 20MnCr5 is a low alloy case hardening chromium, manganese steel available as full bar lengths or cut pieces with delivery to the whole of the UK. When carburised 20MnCr5 gives a hard case with a strong core whilst retaining a degree of toughness. It is suited for applications which require a combination of toughness and wear resistance and is commonly supplied in round bar. As an alternatibe 16MnCr5 is also available in a range of diameters, please contact our sales team for further details.

Applications

This carburising steel grade is commonly used in the engineering and automotive industries for a wide variety of components such as shafts, gears, colletts, pins, camshafts and pinions.

Carbon 0.17-0.22% Chromium 1.00-1.30%
Silicon 0.40% max Manganese 1.00-1.40%
Sulphur 0.035% max Phosphorous 0.025% max

Case hardening will give a hard wear resisting surface combined with a tough core strength. Case hardening temperatures range from 780-820°C, followed by rapid quenching and tempering which will determine the resulting hardness.

When hardening 20MnCr5 heat treatment temperatures, including rate of heating, cooling and soaking times will vary due to factors such as the shape and size of each steel component. Other considerations during heat treatment include the type of furnace, quenching medium and work piece transfer facilities. Please consult a heat treatment specialist for full guidance on heat treatment of 20MnCr5 steel.

20MnCr5 case hardening steel is available with BS EN 10204 3.1 mill certificate, please request with our sales department when placing any orders.
